Rocking the boat of digital innovation since 2001

Ocean Observations began in 2001, after our founder, Sofia, was inspired by the digital experiences she encountered during a trip to Tokyo. To put it most eloquently, Sofia was “roundhouse-kicked” by the opportunities that she saw in this new digital world, and the idea behind Ocean Observations was born. While the strategic focus of the company has evolved over the past decade-and-a-half, the mission of Ocean remains unchanged: to uncover meaningful ways in which the fusion of design and technology can create more profound experiences for users.
Our name “Ocean Observations” isn’t about observing the ocean in a literal sense—but symbolically speaking, we think it’s a nice way to describe what we do. It’s a pretty well-known fact that the ocean makes up about 70% of the earth’s surface area. But we think it is absolutely mind-blowing to think about the many individual drops (22.2 septillion, to be exact) that each play an important role in making the ocean so mighty. We believe that meaningful change can only come from understanding the many individual perspectives that come together to form the big picture. And by inviting people to be a part of change, we become more powerful.

We are a small(ish) agency with a big heart.

With employees across offices in Stockholm and Tokyo, we are a diverse crew of design thinkers & doers working together to achieve one common goal: design that makes a difference.

Our clients are our partners.

Our clients are always an engaged part of our team. That’s why we only work with the best! (And by “the best” we mean corporations, organizations, start-ups, foundations and small businesses that share the desire to make the world a little nicer, for everyone.)
