LISMO!Share

Japanese operator KDDI trusted us with the challenging and exciting task of taking their well-known brand LISMO! to the Android platform. The work included a total remake, from a list-based application with button navigation to a rich touch-based modern music player. By applying the same design language used for the home apps in IS01 and IS03 phones, we managed to tie products and services together and help KDDI strengthen their brand.

Inspired by old-school jukeboxes
We worked closely with KDDI to find a unique way of easily selecting and playing music. Inspired by old-school Jukeboxes where you can select the next song, the Jukebox in LISMO! allows you to drag songs from the music library and drop their jackets on the Jukebox for immediate play. Adding more songs to the Jukebox creates a queue. With a toggle button it is easy to open the Jukebox and get a more detailed list view.
It should be fun to collect music

Until now it has been very difficult or impossible to make playlists in mobile devices. We tackled this problem by designing a feature called collections. An empty collection is created with a single touch, it immediately gets an identifier, a beautiful icon, and a name, the current date. No need for typing!

The collection icon is dragged onto the Jukebox and the collection is then built up by songs dragged onto the Jukebox. Collections can be moved around, renamed or customized with a range of icons and colours.

Explaining new features

There is always a threshold for learning new things. We have made the journey a little more fun and intuitive by providing illustrated hints with a short explanation of features such as the Jukebox and collections.

Always-on music controls

The LISMO! player sports a beautiful play screen with all the controls you expect. Play, skip to next, and previous song have a dedicated area at the bottom of the screen. From this control area users can easily toggle between the music library and the Jukebox.

Trivia

LISMO! is short for au Listen Mobile service. The "LIS" in "LISMO!" is pronounced in the same way as "risu", the Japanese word for "squirrel", hence the cute mascot!
